Job Overview
The Media and Communications Officer will support the development and delivery of coordinated internal and external communications for CBM Global Nigeria. This role plays a key part in amplifying CBM Global’s brand and visibility in Nigeria – including promoting inclusive development and ensuring that the voices of persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups are represented. 

Working under the supervision of the Country Director, and with a dotted line to the Global Senior Communications Officer, the postholder will contribute to the implementation of the Country Communications Plan aligned with the Global Communications Strategy. The Officer will manage and maintain digital and social media platforms for the Country Team, produce engaging and accessible content, and support communications activities that enhance advocacy, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement efforts across Nigeria.

Hours: Full-time (40 hours). The candidate is required to travel within Nigeria and internationally, estimated at around 20% of working time, though this may vary depending on project needs.

Salary range: The salary offered will be competitive, dependent on skills and experience. We offer a local contract.

Responsibilities and Duties  
 
1. External Communications

  • Manage and update the website and social media platforms of CBM Global Nigeria Country Team in alignment with CBM Global Federation strategy and messaging.
  • Develop engaging content including stories, case studies, reports, and media releases to highlight programme impact and promote brand visibility.
  • Monitor and report on digital performance metrics; stay informed on trends in online communications and fundraising.
  • Build and maintain relationships with CBM Global implementing partners, Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), local media, and sector stakeholders to secure positive coverage, appropriate brand communication and reportage.
  • Support crisis communication efforts and humanitarian responses with timely and sensitive messaging.

2. Internal Communications

  • Maintain internal communication channels such as newsletters, webinars, and intranet updates to keep staff informed and engaged.
  • Collaborate with programme and technical teams to source and share impactful stories and updates.
  • Ensure consistent use of CBM Global branding across all internal materials and communications.
  • Manage the local media asset bank and support the Country Team members in accessing and using content effectively.

3. Strategic Communications

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the CBM Global Nigeria Media and Communications Strategy.
  • Support CBM Global positioning and branding efforts in Nigeria in collaboration with the Global Secretariat Communications Team.
  • Provide communications support to the Country Team for donor engagement and fundraising campaigns.

4. Other Duties

  • Advocate for CBM Global’s mission and values through all communications.
  • Promote accessibility and inclusion across all media and communication platforms and materials.
  • Participate in safeguarding initiatives and support the Country Safeguarding Focal Point with communications-related responsibilities.
  • Track and report on the communications Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and milestones of the Country Team.
  • Coordinate and support the Global Communications Team with communication needs in Nigeria as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Country Director, including occasional work outside normal office hours.

·       Understands the incident management framework and their first responder role in recording, responding and reporting incidents.  

·       Understands the survivor-centred approach and how to apply it when receiving a complaint or responding to an incident. Knows local support services available in the community or region, and how to engage them. 

Skills 

·       Able to listen and accurately document reported concerns and complaints. Able to respect the confidentiality of safeguarding allegations. Able to appropriately apply the survivor-centred approach. 

Behaviours 

·       Treats the survivor and others involved in an incident with dignity and respect. 

·       Be assertive in implementing the initial incident response protocols by gaining the trust and cooperation of parties involved.

Person Specification
 
All of the following requirements are essential, unless marked with a * when they are desirable.

Experience

  • Professional experience in a national or international NGO with a minimum of 3 years in a similar role.
  • Proven experience in communications/media roles, preferably in the development sector.
  • Strong knowledge of social media, digital marketing, and Search Engine Optimization.
  • Experience in media engagement and crisis communication.
  • Familiarity with disability inclusion and development issues is an asset.*
  • Proficiency in digital tools and software; quick learner of new platforms.
  • Commitment to CBM Global’s vision and values.

Skills/competencies/personal qualities

·       Excellent writing and storytelling skills; ability to produce content for diverse audiences.
·       Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across teams.
·       Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities

Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree in communication, Journalism, International Development, or any other related field.
·       Professional certification in communications (e.g., Chartered Institute of Public Relations) is desirable. *
