News | September 14, 2023
The Africa Disability Forum (ADF) and CBM Global are pleased to announce a new strategic collaboration, formalised in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
ADF currently has members from 44 African countries, with a mission to “promote the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities and their families in Africa through empowerment and participation, unifying and amplifying their voices, and strengthening their organizations and partnerships.”
CBM Global works alongside people with disabilities living in the world’s poorest places to fight poverty and exclusion, transform lives, and build inclusive communities.
The two organisations have already been working together in a number of ways, including collaborating through CBM Global’s Inclusion Advisory Group in providing advisory services to the World Food Programme in delivering on its commitments to disability inclusion.
The MoU between ADF and CBM Global covers a range of areas of collaboration including: lobbying and advocacy for implementation of the UNCRPD at country level and ratification of the African Disability Protocol by Member States of the African Union; organisational strengthening of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) within ADF’s membership; delivery of inclusion advice to other organisations; and promotion of inclusive climate action, humanitarian response and disability inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction.
Anderson Gitonga, CBM Global Inclusive Development Director, says: “We are very excited about this continued collaboration particularly because both CBM Global Disability Inclusion and ADF have aligned goals and commitments. Collaborative work is essential in strengthening disability inclusion as diverse teams offer unique perspectives that drive forward innovations and growth.”
Shuaib Chalklen, the Executive Director of ADF states that “ADF welcomes the renewed commitment of CBM Global to working closely with ADF as it works towards its goals and objectives, including focusing on social protection for Africans with disabilities.”
Both organisations share a common vision of promoting the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities and ensuring their improved quality of life, leaving no one behind.
