CBM Global Zimbabwe celebrates the launch of Country Office and Strategic Plan

News | July 10, 2023

We are delighted to celebrate the opening of CBM Global Zimbabwe’s Country Office in Harare on 17 May 2023. Representatives of organisations of people with disabilities, partners, the Zimbabwean government, and the national press joined the momentous event.

The Country Team, led by Greaterman Chivandire, also launched the newly established two-year strategic plan to the attendees. The plan shares how CBM Global works through authentic and strategic partnerships with the government, development partners, civil society organisations, non-government organisations, and organisations of people with disabilities. It is grounded on the provisions of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, national policies, and instruments on disability inclusion such as the 2021 National Disability Policy and the Constitution.

Dr. Edmos Mtetwa, from the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, graced the opening day.

He says: “The government of Zimbabwe is embracing the national disability inclusive agenda to transform our society into a more inclusive one…Turning to our development partners, CBM included, we are aware of a number of milestones they have achieved.”

Kirsty Smith, Chief Executive of CBM UK (a member of CBM Global), joined the celebration. She says:

“We are a federation cemented by shared values and shared vision. We seek to be a locally led local organisation. People with disabilities in Zimbabwe know best their context, they know best the solutions to those problems. We want to transform lives and build inclusive communities where everyone can thrive and seize best opportunities.”

Greaterman Chivandire, Country Director of CBM Global Zimbabwe, says:

“The launch of CBM Global Zimbabwe was a momentous day that we shared with the disability movement. We look forward to working with organisations of persons with disabilities, partners, and other like-minded organisations to fight poverty and exclusion and transform lives.”

CBM Global has been working with partners in Zimbabwe since 1974. Our work includes preventing blindness, improving health and transforming the lives of people with disabilities.
