Danny HaddadCBM Global is delighted to announce that Dr. Danny Haddad has been appointed as its Inclusive Eye Health Director. Danny will play a key role in driving the direction and growth of our work in inclusive eye health and Neglected Tropical Diseases.

A billion people worldwide live with avoidable blindness or visual impairment due to lack of access to eye health services. For many women, men and children living in poverty, access to straightforward interventions such as cataract surgery or a pair of glasses are out of reach. CBM Global works in partnership to improve access to inclusive and comprehensive eye health services for all, strengthening national eye health systems, making services affordable and accessible to the poorest and most marginalised people and helping eliminate Neglected Tropical Diseases, even for the most vulnerable groups.

Danny says:

“I am incredibly excited to take up this new position and to establish eye health programmes that are accessible and fully inclusive for people with disabilities, women, and other marginalised groups. I see amazing opportunities for new forms of collaboration and partnership in pursuing this aim, so that together we can break the cycle of poverty and disability.”

Danny brings with him over 25 years of experience working in global ophthalmology and NTDs.  His public health career includes appointments with Orbis International, the Emory Eye Center at Emory University and the International Trachoma Initiative (ITI).  In his most recent role as Chief of Programs at Orbis, Danny was responsible for the organization’s program vision and strategy, oversight of the global program portfolio and its planning processes and implementation.  During his time with ITI Danny spearheaded the development of a global roadmap, 2020 INSight, the trachoma atlas, and the Global Trachoma Mapping Project, the first mapping project of its kind, and had oversight of the more than a billion dollar donation of Zithromax in partnership with Pfizer to eliminate blinding trachoma. Danny holds a medical degree from the University Of Groningen in the Netherlands.

As Inclusive Eye Health Director, Danny will oversee the development and delivery of an ambitious strategy for inclusive eye health, linking with CBM Global’s related work in community based inclusive development, community mental health and disability inclusive humanitarian action.
