CBM Global strengthens its commitment to climate and environmental action

Climate and environmental crises are increasing risks for communities worldwide, with people with disabilities often among those most affected. As a signatory to the Climate and Environment Charter for Humanitarian Organisations, CBM Global is strengthening its commitment to climate action, environmental responsibility and disability inclusion across our programmes and operations.
CBM Global does so by reducing emissions, promoting environmentally responsible practices and advancing disability-inclusive climate action. Through our programmes, advocacy and partnerships, we aim to build resilience while ensuring most marginalised are meaningfully included.
Our commitment recognises that climate action and disability inclusion must go hand in hand. Through our work in disaster risk reduction, humanitarian action, sustainable livelihoods, we aim to support communities build resilience to climate and environmental risks while ensuring that persons with disabilities are actively included in decision-making, contribute and benefit from mitigation and adaptation efforts.
Over the coming years, CBM Global will sharpen our focus on reducing our organisational carbon emissions through annual tracking and continual improvement of our operational practices. We will promote low-carbon ways of working, integrate climate and environmental considerations into programme design and implementation, and apply a “do no harm” approach to minimise negative environmental impacts.
We will also strengthen the use of risk-informed approaches and tools such as Climate, Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction Integration Guidance (CEDRIG) to better integrate climate, environmental and disaster risk considerations across our programmes. Attention will be given to piloting and scaling climate-resilient, disability-inclusive approaches within livelihoods and eye health programmes and documenting lessons that can be shared with partners across the sector.
Working together with Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), local partners, humanitarian and development actors, CBM Global will continue to advocate for disability inclusive climate action and climate justice. We believe that effective climate solutions must include the knowledge, leadership and perspectives of persons with disabilities and their representative organisations.
By aligning our work with the commitments of the Climate & Environment Charter, we aim to contribute to a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable future while holding ourselves accountable through regular review, learning and continuous improvement.
